Birmingham City Council improves City Centre Parking Management
Earlier in the year, Parkeon successfully tendered for the supply and installation of 43 Parkeon Strada Rapide terminals to Birmingham City Council. The terminals are currently being installed in the central Livery Street area, the busiest part of the city. They are all mains powered, coin-only meters, but with the added benefit of being fitted with 3G modems enabling connection to the Parkfolio centralised management system.
As Jon Hillier, South West Midlands & Wales Sales Executive for Parkeon explains: “Parkfolio is an easy-to-use, flexible, web-based system that will enable the Council to control the parking by monitoring live both financial and terminal status in an efficient manner across the parking zones.”

- Sends warnings and alarms when terminals require attention
- Increases security with overnight cash level indicators to help plan collection routes and reduce cash on-street

- Maximises revenues by optimising terminal up-times
- Reduces maintenance costs
Birmingham City Council’s cabinet member for Development, Transport & the Economy, Cllr Tahir Ali, said: “Even parking meters can be improved with the addition of technology and the modems will help to ensure that we provide a reliable and cost effective service for visitors to the city centre. The system allows us to monitor the meters remotely which means we’ll know if there’s a problem and this in turn allows us to reduce maintenance costs.”
All of the new terminals have an extended keypad fitted which enables users to key in their license plate details, which are then printed onto their ticket preventing tickets from being transferred from one user to another.
